Silverwood to ref Anzac test

MIRFIELD rugby league referee Richard Silverwood has been given another notable appointment as he will take charge of his fourth successive Anzac Test between Australia and New Zealand at Eden Park, Auckland, next Friday.

The 35-year-old Super League official previously refereed at the Anzac Tests in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and he has again been chosen to take charge on April 20.

Silverwood’s illustrious refereeing career has also seen him take charge of Challenge Cup finals, the Super League Grand Final, a World Club Challenge and a host of international games.

Next Friday’s game is expected to attract in excess of 40,000 spectators and it is the first time New Zealand have staged the Anzac Test since 1998.

Australia have won 11 of the 12 Anzac Tests, including last year’s 20-10 success on the Gold Coast.
