Holiday Hampers Appeal: Mirfield charity launches Christmas hampers appeal to support care leavers

A Mirfield charity has launched its annual Holiday Hampers Appeal to support young people in Kirklees leaving care.

Northorpe Hall Child and Family Trust is calling on the local community to help make Christmas more special for these young people by aiming to provide two gift boxes for each person who left care in the district during 2026.

Working with Kirklees Council for the second year running, one will contain everyday essentials and little comforts, while the other will be filled with festive treats.

Chris Rowe, Chief Executive of Northorpe Hall Child and Family Trust, said: “Every young person deserves to know that someone is thinking of them, particularly at a time of year when so much attention is given to family and togetherness.

“For young people leaving care, that support network can look very different, and we want to play our part in making sure they feel valued by their local community.

“Our Holiday Hamper Appeal brings people together to do something practical and thoughtful for young people starting out on their own.

“We’re grateful to everyone who donates, because every contribution helps us show these young people that their community cares.”

For the wellbeing box, the charity is asking for donations such as shower gel, bubble bath, body spray, fluffy socks, candles, diffusers, and self-care items including hand cream, lip balm and hand or foot masks.

The festive treats box will be filled with seasonal goodies, including chocolate and sweets, biscuits, hot chocolate sachets and marshmallows, savoury crackers or panettone, and Christmas or winter-themed mugs.

Donations can be dropped off at reception at Northorpe Hall during opening hours until Wednesday, November 18. For those who cannot visit in person, an Amazon Wishlist allows supporters to choose items and have them delivered directly to Northorpe.
