Across all categories - achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, early years, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing - the school was judged to be meeting ‘expected standards’.

Inspectors recognised the school’s vision that all members of the community “can and will succeed”, describing a welcoming environment where pupils feel safe, valued and supported.

The report states: “Pupils warmly welcome the support from caring adults and know whom to speak to if any problems arise. Trained staff greet pupils and check their wellbeing, ensuring that this is a constant focus.

“Pupils feel well supported because staff know them well and understand their individual needs and circumstances. Staff work closely with families and external agencies to make sure pupils get the support they need so that they can take part fully in school life.

“Pupils describe their school as a place where you make friends. They show respect and are polite and well mannered in their interactions with adults. At social times, pupils play well together.

“Leaders embed clear routines, rewards and expectations across the school. This helps to create a calm and purposeful environment. Pupils typically show positive attitudes to learning.”

By the end of Year 6, inspectors found that children are “generally well prepared for their next stage of education” while leaders “identify gaps in pupils’ learning and provide targeted support.” The report adds that this has helped disadvantaged pupils in particular to achieve well.

Alongside their academic learning, inspectors found that pupils benefit from a wide range of opportunities to develop their talents and interests at the Ealand Road school, while educational visits, reading opportunities, leadership roles, sporting activities and cultural experiences all contribute to a “rich school experience that helps pupils develop confidence and broaden their horizons.”

Executive Principal Andrew Midgley said: “We are incredibly proud that this report recognises the caring, inclusive and ambitious culture that exists throughout Carlinghow Academy.

“At the heart of everything we do is a belief that every child can and will succeed. It is particularly pleasing to see inspectors recognise the way our staff know and support pupils as individuals, while maintaining high expectations for all.

“This report also reflects the strong partnerships we have built with our families and the wider community. Together, we are creating a school where pupils feel safe, valued and able to achieve their very best.”
