The 22-year-old came through the academy at Leeds Rhinos and follows in the footsteps of his father, Chris Chapman, who represented the Rams during his career.

He started his career playing rugby union at Sandal RUFC in Wakefield before switching codes to play for Leeds-based amateur side Oulton Raiders, where he was scouted by the Rhinos in 2013.

Greenwood has had his eye on the player for a while and previously tried to sign Chapman-Smith when he initially left Leeds at the end of the 2018 campaign.

“I rate Reece highly and when we saw he was available we moved quickly to get him,” said Rams head coach Greenwood.

“He will provide good competition at full-back for us but can play anywhere in the back positions.

“He seems to play well in any game I’ve watched him in, including against us last year for Halifax.

“I spoke to him about joining us when he left Leeds a couple of years ago so he is someone I have followed for a while.”
