Coun Martyn Bolt will be cycling from Balderstone in Lancashire to Balderstone Hall Fields in Mirfield on Saturday and hopes to raise as much money as possible for Kirkwood Hospice and local campaign group, Save Mirfield, a residential group preventing the over development of the town.

Coun Bolt said: “The idea for the bike ride came when I spotted a Balderstone in Lancashire while cycling back from Blackpool with a friend.

“And with Save Mirfield speaking about fundraising at our town council meeting, I thought it would be a good way to raise money for them as well as Kirkwood Hospice.”

Coun Bolt said friend and fellow fundraiser Peter Morgan will join him on the final stage of the ride to also raise money for Kirkwood Hospice, something Peter has done before.

In May this year, thrill-seeker Peter, 68, completed a tandem parachute jump to raise money for the hospice in memory of his late wife Jacqueline who died in October last year.

Self-confessed adrenaline junkie Peter hopes to raise £100,000 in two years for the hospice.

At the end of the ride, - 60 miles and endless aching bones later - it is hoped as many people as possible will meet the pair as they cross the finish point on Primrose Lane at 2.30pm.

Local firm Ambitions have kindly donated refreshments for everyone who turns out, come rain or shine, to support and welcome the fundraisers back home.

Coun Bolt said: “Save Mirfield are putting on a welcome back party for us, so we’re hoping people will come out and cheer us over the finish line.

“And, of course, any donations will be gratefully received.
