Police probe suspected arson attack at Dewsbury flat

Firefighters were called to a block of flats in Halliley Gardens at Westtown, just after 5pm on Monday.

It was initially reported that someone may have been trapped inside and three fire crews from Dewsbury, Cleckheaton and Ossett attended.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus searched the flat and found it to be empty.

Reports said that lighted material may have been pushed through the letterbox. There was some fire damage in the hallway and smoke damage inside the building. No one was hurt.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said officers were investigating.
