He ran the third leg of the run from Cleckheaton Fire Station – running 26km through Leeds to the Thorpe Park Hotel in Colton.

Mr Hacker, who lost his mum to cancer at age 13, has already raised £30,000 for cancer charities by walking 1000 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End in 28 days back in 2007, and in six days in 2011.

Earlier this summer, Tom took part in a 100-mile non-stop bike ride for Macmillan from Ossett Market.

He now aims to raise £10,000 for Macmillan, which will be used to help pay for a new nurse. The 165-mile challenge started in Liverpool on Monday, and will finish in Spurn Point near Hull on Saturday.

He said: “I have been training for over ten months, averaging 16 hours a week, running over 800 miles and anyone who is following my progress on my Facebook page will know it’s been gruelling at times. Before I started training I had never run further than 5km without stopping!

“This has been a long and painful journey for me. Fundraising helps me deal with what has happened and also create real change for those living with cancer today. The pain, the sacrifice, it’s all worth it.”

The next leg of his journey is on today when he will be travelling from the hotel to Howden.

He is inviting people to support him by running with him for part of each stage, whether it’s for 100m or a full day.

Tom plans to set off at 2pm each day so that people who are working can join him towards the end of the stage although some people have already booked leave to run with him.

He added: “You have no idea how much a friendly face and a few words of support can help me along the way.

“And I’m going to burning a lot of calories, so cakes and sandwiches are also welcome along with the company.”
