Man who called police after ‘seeing a gun’ is then arrested for drug offence

A man who called the police because he said two men were outside his house with a gun was then arrested himself.

The 39-year-old reported seeing the men through his window in Granny Lane, Lower Hopton, who pointed what appeared to be a gun at him.

Armed officers searched the area just after midnight on August 13, but no suspects were found.

Instead, the remnants of a small cannabis farm were discovered in the caller’s property.

He was arrested on suspicion of drug cultivation.

The man was later released and given an adult caution.

Det Sgt Nigel Gittens, of Kirklees CID, said: “Anyone who saw two men behaving suspiciously in Granny Lane shortly after midnight or has information is asked to call Kirklees CID on 101.

“Information can also be given anonymously to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.”
