Lottery grants handed out to good causes

Crossbank Methodists Cricket Club, Carlinghow Princess Royal Junior Infant and Nursery School and Warwick Road Junior Infant and Nursery School, all in Batley, were given Lottery Fund money, alongside Ravensthorpe Community Centre.

The total of £38,497 awarded is a chunk of the £576,444 handed out across Yorkshire and the Humber.

Lyn Cole, Big Lottery Fund’s deputy director for England, said: “Today’s awards demonstrate how people in Yorkshire and the Humber are taking the lead to make a positive difference to their local community using grants from the Big Lottery Fund.”

It has been a big month for Crossbank in particular, which hosted in the reopening of its clubhouse on Friday April 3, not even a month after £6,000 of equipment was stolen.

Thieves broke into a storage unit in March in a burglary club secretary Clive Barratt described an opportunistic theft by an organised gang, warning other clubs to stay vigilant.

•Carlinghow School was given £9,000 for a physical activity and healthy lifestyle project.

•Warwick Road School has received £10,000 to build an outdoor play area and arrange a programme of extracurricular clubs and activities.

•Ravensthorpe Community Centre received £9,970 to run healthy eating, gardening, arts and crafts programmes for people with low to moderate learning difficulties.

•Crossbank Methodists Cricket Club received £8,727 for cricket equipment for adults with learning difficulties, Down’s syndrome and autism.
