The children at the village primary school baked and sold buns on Friday to raise money for our four charities.

They also held a non-uniform day.

Headteacher Rebecca Martin said: “Our school council members decided they wanted to be involved in the appeal and voted to hold a non uniform day with everyone bringing £1 for the appeal. We also decided to hold a bun sale and raise additional money.”

Schools across North Kirklees have been invited to organise events to support the fund, which will benefit Kirkwood Hospice, the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, One Community and Asthma UK.

The pupils at the neighbouring BBG Academy in Birkenshaw also decided to support the appeal by holding a non-uniform day.

The Reporter Series Fund is a simple way for readers and the communities we serve to support good causes during 2013. But we need your help to raise money.

Could you host a fundraising event? Let us know and we’ll tell the rest of our readers all about it! At the end of the year we will split all the money donated to the fund between our four fantastic charites.
