Club’s looking good after a new makeover

Batley Boys ARLFC was nominated to benefit from the scheme by members of staff based at PPG’s warehousing and distribution facility in Birstall, which employs more than 800 people.

A group of 15 volunteers got to work over a five-day period to revive the club’s changing rooms and corridors at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium, which Batley Boys proudly shares with the Batley Bulldogs.

The club’s teams utilise the stadium’s gym, bar, kitchen and changing rooms and match preparations in the 2015 season will take place in spruced-up surroundings following the decorating work.

The refurbishment is part of the PPG Friends Community Engagement Scheme - a series of volunteering events organised by PPG, to reach out to the local communities that the company is connected to through its location and staff.

Ian Godfrey of Batley Young People’s Club, said: “I’m delighted to see the club get a fresh coat of paint alongside other repairs and fixes. It brightens up the atmosphere for the lads who use the club on a regular basis, and hopefully it will inspire some winning performances in the new season. I’d like to thank PPG for the fantastic work they carried out in such a short space of time. The place has long been in need of brightening up, and now it’s looking great.”

Tracy Broadbent, who nominated the project, added: “Clubs like this are crucial to local communities.

“My son has just been given a scholarship at Leeds Rhinos, which wouldn’t be possible without the solid foundations put in place by clubs like this.”
