Inspired by his commitment, fellow volunteers nominated him for an Incredible Colleagues award, which recognises those who have overcome obstacles to achieve success. Adam was one of 10 shortlisted finalists invited to attend a VIP lunch in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

“Adam is an amazing person and he’s worked exceptionally hard to overcome the difficulties life has thrown at him,” said Branwell Manor manager Carol Longbottom.

“When he told us he wanted to get a job, we were keen to ensure we found the right opportunity for him and we couldn’t be happier with the way things have turned out. The Sue Ryder staff have been extremely supportive and Adam loves working with them. He’s providing valuable assistance and he’s even managed to save them money with his diligent quality control!

“He gets real satisfaction from volunteering and it’s made a significant difference to his life,” she added.

Adam’s residential home is run by Voyage Care and he lives there with seven other adults who have physical and learning disabilities.
