Dewsbury Moor U11s win Leeds Rhinos Challenge Festival

Dewsbury Moor U11s stormed to victory at last month’s Leeds Rhinos festival, taking the crown after going unbeaten in their eight games.

Moor were the team to beat throughout the competition, winning seven games and drawing once as they cruised to glory in the annual festival at Butlins, Skegness.

Connor Charlesworth had two reasons to cheer as he was voted U11 Man of Steel by the Leeds Rhinos scouts attending the event.

Other members of the victorious Dewsbury side were Harry Thornton, Jacob White, Jonathan Diskin, Taylor Franklin, Josh Inwood, Owen Beattie, Aaron O’Neil, Jay Haywood Scriven, Ethan Starkey, Jake Wilson and Ethan Thompson.

At the same tournament, the U13s made the final of their competition, but were unlucky to miss out.

Elsewhere, Moor U12s got revenge for their crushing 46-14 defeat against Kippax earlier in the season as they prevailed 20-12.

Finlay Bruce, Bailey Ghata, George Hirst and Billy Jowitt all went over for the team in a comfortable win.

Thornhill Trojans U10s travelled to Whinmoor last weekend with just ten of their 16 players available, but put on an admirable display to trouble their hosts.

Kurt Hodgson scored two early tries with Zak Harrod adding a third, while there were also great performances from Ben Pritchard, Brandon Hargreaves and the returning Tom Darley.

Trojans U8s also impressed with an under-strength team. Despite playing without substitutes, Thornhill battled the fatigue to hold Stanley Rangers to a draw on a hot day, Brandon Samuel and Bailey Lee both scoring twice.

Thornhill U9s racked up the tries with a stunning attacking display at Wetherby Bulldogs on Saturday.

Ollie Robson scored a hattrick, Kieran Duxbury and Chris Armitage both went over twice, and there were also tries Jermaine Balicki and the game’s standout player Jordan Hargreaves.

Dewsbury Celtic Wolfhounds U10s bagged their first win against Ovenden with an excellent display built on a rock-solid defence.

Harry Cummins bagged the Man of the Match award as the Wolfhounds stood firm to shock Ovenden.

Celtic U10s faced Batley Boys in an entertaining match.

Max Rhodes, Jonah Parsons and Kyle Tomlinson all scored for Batley, with Leon Ruan losing the match ball for ten minutes after firing over a powerful conversion.

Joseph Wisher took Batley’s Man of the Match accolade, while the Dewsbury award went to Jake Sykes.
