Old Batelians beat Dewsbury Rangers in penalty shoot out

Old Batelians booked their place in the Yorkshire Amateur League Hodgson Cup semi-final thanks to a penalty shoot out victory over Dewsbury Rangers Reserves.

Tyler Spencer’s pass set up a goal for James Byrne and he went on to add a second after latching onto a long kick from goalkeeper Jonathan Storey.

Rangers stormed back in impressive fashion as they levelled matters and then took a 3-2 lead and looked on course to reach tonight’s semi-final.

In the closing stages, Jak Murphy headed home a corner and with no further goals in extra time, the tie was decided on penalties.

Storey, Razeb Raja and Byrne all scored their penalties as Batelians edged through 3-2 after the shoot out.

It was not a good day for Rangers as their first team suffered a 9-0 defeat at home to Ealandians Reserves in Division One.

Norristhorpe Reserves are three points clear at the top of Division Five with a game in hand of their nearest rivals after they earned a 4-1 win over Modernians Reserves.

Emil Dimatteo, Sam Everett, Liam Wright and James Patterson were the Norristhorpe goal scorers as they took another step towards the league title.

West End Park’s poor run continued as they suffered a 5-0 defeat to Thornesians Reserves, who had a Paul Hayes hat-trick plus two own goals to thank for their victory.
