Howden Clough youngster wins Gerry Murrock Shield

After all 30 players who featured during the season had collected momentos, Clough under-9s head coach Marko Aprovic announced the evening’s main award - the Gerry Murrock Memorial Shield.

Murrock was a founder of Howden Clough in 1976 and during his time with the club, held various positions including secretary and team manager.

Murrock also designed the tiger club crest Clough still use today and when he died in 1989 a special shield was donated to the club in his memory.

Harry, pictured right, was awarded the trophy for his outstanding performances, dedication, commitment and attitude both on and off the pitch over the last season.

The six coaches of the three Clough under-9 teams made a unanimous decision to award Harry the trophy, which he will keep for a year.

Defender Harry has progressed through the ranks. from Clough’s B team to A team this season.

The youngster, from Leeds Road, Birstall, said: “It is an honour to be chosen for this special trophy and I’d like to thank all the coaches.”
