Reporter Series Business Awards 2011

SPECSAVERS has its eye open for North Kirklees’s next business mogul as the sponsor of the Reporter Series’ Business Awards.

The Batley and Dewsbury branch of Specsavers has signed up to sponsor the event for the fifth time, drawing on over 20 years of experience as a prominent business in the district.

Paul Smith, from the branch, knows all too well how important it is to build a brands reputation locally, before using that as a springboard for expansion.

“Specsavers has been part of the Dewsbury business community for the past 21 years,” he said.

“The success of this store enabled us to open a further store seven years ago in Batley, and three years ago we relocated to a much larger store in Dewsbury.”

The branches employ 45 people between them and Mr Smith believes that local connection has stood them in good stead. Staff retention is high, with 20 members of staff staying with the company for more than five years.

“We’ve worked hard to build upon our local roots, integrate ourselves within the community and provide an affordable yet high quality service to satisfy the needs of our customers.

“Fortunately our hard work has paid off and our customer numbers continue to grow and we now have in excess of 90,000 active customers between Dewsbury and Batley.

“The last few years have been tough, especially in retail, and we’ve seen a number of national retailers leave the high street.”

As a result, the branch is proud to throw its weight behind the Reporter Series Business Awards.

Mr Smith added: “The awards are an integral celebration in the business community and a showcase which aims to develop business and employment in our area.”
