Arts council regional director Cluny Macpherson said the tour would visit 30 venues that have not traditionally show that type of work.

He said: “It will introduce an innovative blend of contemporary and traditional South Asian arts to new audiences, bringing inspiring art experiences to even more people.”

Manasamitra’s artistic director Supriya Nagarajan said: “We relish the opportunity of sharing our work more widely through a larger touring circuit with more high profile venues and mainstream audiences.”

Proposed venues include Bradford Cathedral, Grimsby Minster, and York Minster.
