As part of the LTA’s Tennis for kids programme the number of children participating in tennis coaching has doubled this year.

LTA accredited tennis coach Tawona Moyo has run five coaching courses, which included six sessions over six weeks for children aged between four and 11 years old.

Thanks to funding from the Thornhill POORS fund the club has been able to offer subsidised places for children from low-income households to help inspire them to be active and try tennis.

The Thornhill club have also introduced popular family tennis sessions each Friday between 5.15pm to 6.15pm.

Thornhill Tennis Club volunteer Zsuzsanna Puskas was awarded the Regional Great British Tennis Award and she was invited to the National Great British Tennis Award Ceremony during Wimbledon, where her family met Judy Murray, Scott Lloyds and other LTA coordinators.

Zsuzsi is now trying to inspire other people in Thornhill to volunteer and increase sports participation in the area.

The Thornhill Tennis Club has teamed up with the cricket and bowling section, Bikeability, Aby’s Dance Club, Dog trainers group, local rounders and football teams along with Kirklees Council Sports and Physical Activity Development Team and the St John Fisher Sports Partnership to invite people from the local community to participate in fun activities.

Although sport will be the main focus everyone is invited to see what the club has to offer.
