Dewsbury suffered a 46-16 defeat at home to Halifax last Sunday and Morrison admits there is a gulf between the top four Championship sides and the rest.

The Rams slipped to seventh place, three points behind fourth placed Halifax with five matches remaining before the Championship splits into two groups.

Speaking after last week’s defeat, Morrison said: “I said at the start of the year that we wanted to improve on last season and make into the top six.

“Some of the performances we have had this season have got us in the position where people are talking about the top four but I think it showed that we are not a top four side.

“We are realistic and Halifax were able to bring in some dual reg players and it showed the gulf between the top four and ourselves.

“If you have got the money, you can get the top players in the Championship.

“Some people’s expectations have been in dreamland about making the top four and when it comes down to the business end of the season (Halifax) have been able to bring in some Super League players, which makes it really tough.

“When we started getting results, people started to dream that we could get into the top four and while it would have been nice we have got to get back to reality and achieve our goal which we set out at the start of the year.”

Half-back Brett Seymour missed the Halifax game as he picked up an injury in training last Friday.

He was replaced by youngster James Glover, who celebrated signing a new contract with the Rams by producing a man-of-the-match display on his Championship debut.
