Morrison confident of a strong finale

The Rams, currently seventh, entertain Barrow Raiders on Sunday (ko 3pm) aiming to cement their place in the top eight.

Morrison was delighted with the effort his injury-hit side produced at Batley and believes the Rams were worthy of earning a bonus point.

Speaking after the 22-10 defeat at Mount Pleasant, Morrison said: “I’m glad we got the point and we probably deserved better than that.

“We had eight players out injured and then Wakey took another (Lucas Walshaw) off me after we’d had our last run.

“Browny (Aaron Brown) then pulled out in the warm-up and we were down to our last 17, with two makeshift hookers and I thought it was an outstanding effort.

“We’ve got a lot better in us but still pushed one of the top teams all the way and if we were to meet Batley again at the end of the year, we know we can match them.”

Morrison revealed that Brown has been carrying a knee injury for a couple of weeks and was forced to withdraw minutes before last Sunday’s game but could have recovered in time to feature against Barrow.

The coach was also full of praise for Jonathan Schofield, who started at hooker and produced a terrific display, setting up one try and scoring Dewsbury’s other.

Morrison said: “Schoey has never whinged at not getting a game and has turned up to every session and done everything we have asked from him.

“It shows that if you put the hard work in, you get a chance and I thought he was outstanding.

“He’s done everything asked of him off the field and he’s done it on the field now, so it’s up to him to keep the shirt.”

Lucas Walshaw was a late call into Wakefield’s first team last Sunday, while new permanent signing Jobe Murphy was ruled out with an ankle injury but Morrison admits he is looking forward to working with the former Bradford Bulls back rower.

Morrison added: “Jobe is a good kid, who works really hard. He makes an impression in defence and is good with the ball and he’s a good person to have around.”

Barrow have slipped to the bottom of the Championship but they pushed leaders Sheffield Eagles all the way last week so could pose a threat to Dewsbury on Sunday.
