Golf trophy delight for McGarry

Around 70 members enjoyed a round of golf followed by evening’s entertainment and refreshments in the clubhouse.

Played in dry but windy conditions, almost matching those of The Open at St Andrews, the overall winner of the President’s Bowl was Nick McGarry with a round of 61 nett .

After accepting the trophy, McGarry paid tribute to the quality of the course and the greens in particular and thanked the greens staff for their hard work and the East Bierley members for their friendliness and hospitality.

Other Division One prize winners were Graeme Anderson, G Newberry and R Simpson.

DivisionTwo prize winners were N McGarry, C Garbutt and T Parker with ladies prizes going to R Senior and J Baraclough.

Nearest the pin prizes went to J Oglesby and N McGarry.

Hanging Heaton Golf Club staged their past captain’s trophy, which saw 13 former captains compete an over 18 hole Stableford.

The winner was 2003 captain Andrew Snare (7 handicap) with 40 points as he edged out runner-up in 2010 captain Jeff Button(8 handicap) 38 points.
