Gale hits century Down Under

YORKSHIRE cricket captain Andrew Gale returns home this weekend following a superb five-week tour of Australia with the England Performance Squad.

The 26-year-old from Cleckheaton helped England win four-day games against the Queensland Academy and Western Australia as the Performance Squad shadowed the senior England team Down Under.

In last week’s final tour game against Western Australia, Gale hit a superb first innings score of 113 not out as England declared on 340-3 in reply to the hosts’ 388 all out.

Dewsbury-born Gale’s knock came from 173 balls and included 16 fours as the England Performance Squad went on to dismiss Western Australia for 199 in their second innings.

Gale was not required to bat in the second innings as England raced to 248-3 to complete a seven-wicket win.

Gale and his Performance Squad colleagues stayed in Perth until the start of the third Ashes Test but they are due to return home this weekend.
