West Yorkshire League round-up: Gomersal & Cleckheaton unable to press on after going two up
Gomersal & Cleckheaton FC’s mixed start to the season was summed up in their latest game in the Premier Division of the West Yorkshire League.
They went into Saturday’s match at home to Headingley sitting in mid-table with a record of two wins, two draws and three losses in their first seven games.
That looked set to be improved by three points when they went two goals up, but the visitors hit back to force a 2-2 draw.
The afternoon started so well with Adam Simpson netting twice and Gomersal & Cleckheaton were still 2-0 up at half time.

They had a number of chances to take a further lead and were made to pay after the break when they never got going and sloppy defending twice allowed Headingley back into the game.
Kenzie Fraser won the man of the match for a fine display at full-back.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Littletown have had a tough start to the campaign with just one win from their first seven league matches and they were on the wrong end of a 7-1 scoreline at third-placed Ripon City.
With just six points from their first seven games they find themselves fourth from bottom, but they did go into the season with a trophy success when beating Drighlington FC 3-2 to lift the Heavy Woollen Memorial Trophy.
Overthorpe Sports Club were edged out by third-placed Boroughbridge in Division One.
Following promotion last season Sports have won one, drawn three and lost two of their opening fixtures in the higher division – with the second loss coming 3-2 at home to Boroughbridge.
In a competitive game in which they gave their all goals from Connor Patchett and Nathan Willoughby were not quite enough.
Howden Clough maintained an unbeaten start in Division Two as they won 2-1 at Whitkirk Wanderers.
Two goals in the first 17 minutes were enough to earn all the points as Tom Ingham and Alfie Davey O’Leary netted to make it five wins and one draw from the team’s first six league matches.
Dewsbury Moor are in eighth with seven points from two wins, a draw and three defeats.
They were in first round action in the West Yorkshire League Cup and went down 4-2 to Swillington Saints despite goals from Ben Lodge and Andrew Wood.
