Manager Forrest 'proud' of players' efforts despite defeat for 10-man Liversedge

Back to back league defeats have seen Liversedge FC drop down to sixth place in the NPL East table.

After losing 2-0 at Matlock Town the previous week Danny Forrest’s men were looking to bounce back, but again failed to find the net as they lost 1-0 at home to another of the leading sides in the division in Morpeth Town.

It was a battling display, however, as they had to play more than an hour with 10 men following the controversial sending-off of Jamie Stockdill when he was challenging for a header.

The only goal came when both sides had 11 men, Morpeth going ahead in the 17th minute.

The visitors were unable to add to their score as they met a determined challenge from Sedge who created chances themselves with Laurence Sorhaindo, Kelan Swales and Joe Walton going close.

Despite the loss manager Forrest was proud of his team’s efforts.

He said: "The lads responded well. I’m really pleased with the reaction, they were unbelievable and I’m proud of them.

"But I’m not going to celebrate too much because it’s a given and they understand that.

"Now we need that little bit more to start coming out of games with points.

"We were very good value for a point of whatever and it’s got to turn for us – and we’ve got to make it turn for us.

"In terms of process and the way we’re going about our business it’s great and they are doing everything they can. If we keep going I’m confident, but we’ve got to start forcing the issue a little bit.

"The challenge now is to take it on to that next level. The application has all been there, we’ve just got to find that bit of quality now.”

Liversedge did make progress in the West Riding County Cup in midweek when they comfortably saw off Field Olympic in a first round tie.

Sorhaindo struck twice with Swales scoring the third in a 3-0 success.

Sedge are back on their travels this Saturday when they take on West Auckland Town.
