Lidl reveals opening date for its new store in Birstall

Lidl has confirmed that its new store in Birstall will open next week.

Members of the public are invited to join the Lidl team for the grand opening celebrations on Thursday, November 5, from 8am, when Mayor of Kirklees, Coun Karen Allison, will do the honours at the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The store, on Bankwood Way, has created up to 40 new jobs to boost the local economy. A Lidl spokesperson said recruitment “focused heavily on hiring people who live locally, ensuring the team serving shoppers are part of the fabric of Birstall”.

The Birstall store features the award-winning in-store bakery and famous “Middle of Lidl” aisle.

The site has been designed with rooftop solar panels to generate up to 25 per cent of the store’s electricity requirements. Customers will also be able to charge their electric vehicles at a new 12-bay ultra-rapid charging hub on site.

Liam Schofield, regional head of property for Lidl GB, said: “We are incredibly excited to join the local community and businesses in Birstall.

“This fantastic new store is a direct response to the local demand for high-quality, affordable groceries, and we couldn’t be prouder to welcome the community inside.

“A huge thank you to everyone who helped us turn these plans into a reality – we can’t wait to start making a real difference to your weekly shop.”

The new store will be one of the first to be served by the discounter’s newest warehouse in Gildersome when it opens early next year.

To celebrate the launch of the Birstall store, early bird shoppers will be treated to complimentary food sampling and exclusive deals on the Lidl Plus app.

It will be open 8am until 10pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday.
