Liversedge are five alive after brilliant reaction to first setbacks
Liversedge FC bounced back in fine style following a couple of heavy defeats as they put Lincoln United to the sword at the Meat Drunkery Clayborn Stadium.
The 5-0 loss to Pontefract Collieries the previous Monday had been Sedge’s first dropped points since their return to the NPL East this season, but they were straight back onto the winning trail with a 5-2 success that could have been even more emphatic.
And the victory took them four points clear at the top with 15 collected from their first six league matches.
Manager Danny Forrest was delighted with the display and the way his players had reacted to their first setbacks the previous weekend, when they had also lost 5-0 to Bootle in the FA Trophy.

He said: "There were some honest words after the game on Monday and I just wanted to see more – more purpose, more intent – and I don’t think I could have asked for any more.
"We were outstanding to a man, not just the work ethic, but in terms of the quality. I’ve been trying to demand to bring that quality out and I thought they were absolutely superb.
"It doesn’t happen very often, but I felt really comfortable on the sideline because of the performance and how well they played. I was so pleased.”
It was not all plain sailing for 90 minutes, but Liversedge were quick out of the traps as Kelan Swales and Kayle Price had early chances and Finn Donovan hit the post before they took a 16th minute lead as Donovan netted.
Lincoln equalised following a counter attack on the half-hour and rode their luck to stay level up to the break.
They went in front six minutes into the second half, but Sedge came storming back to quickly turn the game round again with two goals in a minute from Swales and Donovan.
Price made it 4-2 on 70 minutes when latching onto Laurence Sorhaindo’s flick, and Alfie Dean rounded off the scoring late on.
Liversedge are now set for two away tests as they travel to Heaton Stannington on Saturday then Hallam next Tuesday.
