Rain is no dampener as Scholes' promotion is confirmed

Despite having their match with Wakefield St Michael’s cut short by the weather Scholes have secured promotion from Division Three of the Bradford Cricket League.

They may have to settle for a runners-up finish after rivals Adwalton won their game against Wrenthorpe to move 13 points clear, but cannot be caught in second now as they are 52 points ahead of Hopton Mills who still have two games remaining to Scholes’ one.

In the 25 overs possible in their latest match Scholes had found it a struggle as they were on 105-8 when the game was abandoned. Liam Keywood was not out on 38, however, and they were recovering from a seriously perilous position of 43-7.

Hopton Mills’ already slim promotion hopes were finally extinguished by a 31-run defeat at second from bottom Liversedge who made 168.

Hamzah Hafeez made an unbeaten 48, but top contributor was the extra tally of 49.

Khurram Shehzad led the Hopton attack with 5-42 from 15 overs. Adam Siddique took 3-26.

Mills were set a revised target of 167 from 48 overs, but were all out for 137 despite 40 by Shehzad. Pick of the bowlers were Rafeh Shah who took 4-53 and Musafa Djadji (4-42).

Rain prevented a result for Heckmondwike & Carlinghow with play abandoned after opponents East Leeds had reached 117-2 from 24 overs.
