Dog rescue rose to the occasion

Yorkshire Rose was outside the Pets at Home store for most of Saturday, raising more than £200 for its work in re-homing and fostering unwanted pets.

And now the volunteers are gearing up for a bigger event at Oakwell Hall in October.

A spokesman said: “The aim is to show we helps dogs, and cats too, which are seeking new homes. Saturday’s event went really well and we got a lot of people coming along to show interest. We hope something comes of that.”

Along with attractions such as tombola, stalls and £10 micro-chipping of dogs, there was a board featuring photos of animals needing to be re-homed.

The charity is always needing people to provide fostering for dogs needing a permanent home. The group stages three or four events a year at Pets at Home as well as at community shows.

Their next date is at Oakwell Park on October 2, outside Oakwell Hall. This all-day event will feature tombola and stalls along with displays by the fire service, a police dog show, dog competition and a chance for other organisations to hire stalls. Micro-chipping will also be available.

“Around 6,000 people usually turn up for this kind of event so it’s really important for us in terms of raising our profile,.” said the spokesman.
