Coffee and doughnuts for Birstall’s J27

COFFEE giant Starbucks could be returning to Birstall after the closure of Borders last year.

The coffee house has just bought the Exchange Bar and Grill at Birstall’s Junction 27, and planning permission has been granted to change the restaurant into two units. The second half of the premises has been bought by American doughnut company Krispy Kreme, who intend to build a drive through facility. A planning application has been submitted to Kirklees Council for permission to put up new signs.

A spokesman for Greene King, which owned the Exchange Bar and Grill, confirmed the sale on Monday morning.
