Anyone for a tennis world record?

Mr Allard, 20, is aiming to break the world record for the most consecutive opponents in singles tennis. The record is 25 best of three set matches – currently held by an endurance athlete.

Mr Allard said: “It will be incredibly tough and will take around 30 hours to complete, playing against players in my tennis club.”

He is starting the attempt at 8am tomorrow morning and will play through the night, hoping to finish on Sunday afternoon.

“I am allowed a 5 minute rest for every hour of play I do,” the maths student said. “However there are no breaks between games, sets and matches so it will be most certainly a tennis marathon.”

Mr Allard, of High Street, has been playing at Thornhill Tennis Club since he was eight and plays for Thornhill Men’s A team in the Huddersfield League.

He it taking on the ‘Rally for Life’ in memory of his grandma, who battled Alzheimer’s for 20 years before passing away last year.

The money raised will be split between The Alzheimer’s Society and his tennis club, which needs its courts resurfacing and struggles for funding. Mr Allard said: “It would be a tragedy if we were unable to keep the club running in the future. Tennis is a big part of my life and this would not be the case without Thornhill Tennis Club.

“I would hate to see my generation be the last to grow up through the club.”
