Winless run continues for out of sorts Sedge

Liversedge’s winless run has extended to nine matches following defeat to Worksop Parramore last Saturday and a 1-1 draw against bottom side Hall Road Rangers on Tuesday night.

Sedge wasted a host of chances last Saturday and also had two goals harshly disallowed.

Matthew Bugg raced on goal and appeared to be pulled back but shrugged off a defender, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home only for the assistant referee to flag for a foul.

Brooke Newton shot over from an open goal and Worksop took a 59th minute lead through Lee Thompson.

Danny Toronczak looked to have equalised but he was denied by an offside flag as Sedge’s bad luck continued.

With five minutes remaining, Joe Hewitt’s cross was neatly pulled down by Toronczak and he laid the ball off for Bugg to bag the equaliser.

However, Worksop won a 90th minute free-kick and Lee Holmes’ shot crept in at the near post to seal all three points.

Liversedge had dominated fourth-placed Worksop for much of the game but were unable to repeat the performance against bottom side Hall Road on Tuesday.

Paul Hargreen pulled down an attacker and John Slater stepped up to slot home the 19th minute penalty.

Adam Jarrett fired over the crossbar and had a second half effort well saved.

Toronczak shot over from a good position and goalkeeper Richard Watson then made a good block to deny the striker.

With five minutes remaining a speculative shot was palmed up in the air by Watson and landed in the back of the net for an unfortunate own goal.
