Wardlaw signs two-year deal at Yorkshire

CLECKHEATON cricketer Iain Wardlaw has been rewarded for a terrific season by signing a new two-year deal with Yorkshire CCC.

It has been a whirlwind 18 months for the former Hartshead Moor pace man, who has just returned from South Africa, playing for Yorkshire in the Twenty20 Champions League.

The 27-year-old said: “It has been awesome. I’ve progressed over the year and have gained experience in most forms of the game.

“I’ve been consistent in the one-day game and it was quality to go to the Champions League, where I managed to pick up a couple of scalps.”

That statement is somewhat modest from Wardlaw, for one of those ‘scalps’ was none other than Indian Test captain MS Dhoni, bowled by a quality yorker, in Yorkshire’s game against the Chennai Super Kings.

Wardlaw now hopes to kick on and become a regular in Yorkshire’s County Championship squad, who won promotion back to Division One last year.

Wardlaw added: “I’ve always said I want to play in every game in every competition but I would like to get more games in the Championship.

“It’s shown when I have returned to league cricket that I have stepped up a level and thanks is down to the hard work I’ve put in with the coaches.

“I’ve nothing but praise for what Yorkshire have done for me as they have allowed me to play with freedom”
