Thornhill Trojans let big half-time lead slip with late collapse against Myton
Three late tries from Myton Warriors saw Thornhill Trojans capitulate as they ended their Yorkshire A Conference game with a bitterly disappointing 40-32 defeat.
At full-time of this Danny Buckley Plumbing & Heating sponsored game it was difficult to comprehend and take in how much the Trojans had let it slip from their grasp in the closing stages.
For long periods victory looked to be Thornhill's. But credit to the Warriors for keeping going for the full 80 minutes.
There were some highlights for the Trojans supporters in this game. Man of the match Adam Johnson was in outstanding form, collecting two tries and testing the Myton defence with some rampaging runs. Sam Ratcliffe also shone, collecting a brace of tries and Ryan Mitchell treated spectators with a fantastic length of the field try.

However, it was the full-time score that mattered most and the Trojans continued their slide towards the wrong end of the table.
Johnny Campbell opened the scoring almost straight from the kick-off when he seemed to step off one leg to create an opening and go over for a try between the posts. In doing so he injured himself and ended any further impact he could make. Ratcliffe converted.
There was then a period of retaliation from Myton and after the ball was whipped out wide Jay Dawson took the final pass to dive over for an unconverted try in the corner.
The same formula was then repeated and Alfie Wall dived into the same corner for another unconverted try.
But there was at this stage nothing to panic about for the Trojans and they set about restoring their hold on the game. Rye Ward made a fantastic break, covering 50 metres. There was then a run around close to the try line and the move ended with Ratcliffe ploughing over.
Another long range attack followed as the Myton defence could not prevent Johnson from powering away for a try converted by Ratcliffe.
Thornhill were now firmly in control and Ratcliffe stepped away to score a try between the posts. Bailey Lee converted.
There was then a scrum close to the Trojans line and the ball was flung out to the wing by Myton where Callum Clarke collected to go over for an unconverted try.
This seemed nothing more than a momentary setback for Thornhill and this belief was reinforced when Mitchell collected on his own try line. With a sudden burst of pace, he backed himself to go the distance and in full flight covered the entire length of the pitch to score a glorious try. Lee converted.
With a half time lead of 28-12 Thornhill looked to be sitting pretty. However, Myton clearly had other plans.
Zach McGowan scooted away to score a try between the posts and Tyler Fisher converted.
Weak defending allowed Liam Ward to run at the line and cross for an unconverted try.
The only offering the hosts had in the second half was when the ball was worked down the attacking line to find Johnson. The second rower then charged forward to cross for an unconverted try.
However, Myton continued to fight with a never say die attitude and the three late tries saw them record victory.
Ward suddenly stepped back inside to unlock the defensive line and Fisher converted.
For the next Myton try the Thornhill defensive line was too slow to move up and Ward crossed for another try. Fisher converted and the Warriors were now in front.
Then right on full-time the home defensive line was left flat footed, a gap opened up and Fisher went over for a try he converted.
The referee then blew for full-time to leave Thornhill to reflect on a game that got away.
