Rams aim to slay Knights and build on cup success

Dewsbury Rams will aim to become only the second side this season to win at York City Knights in Sunday’s Kingstone Press Championship clash.

While York have lost all five away games this term, they have an impressive record at the Huntington Stadium, where they have won three of their opening four games, including a terrific 24-26 over Featherstone Rovers on Good Friday.

The Knights only defeat on home soil came at the hands of Halifax, so Glenn Morrison is fully aware of the task facing his Dewsbury charges.

Morrison said: “This is one of the games we must win if we are going to make the top eight.

“You need to beat the teams around you but it will be the same for York and they will want to knock us off. It will be a tough game but one we want to win.”

The Rams ended a four-match losing run last Sunday when they defeated amateurs Myton Warriors 56-6 in the Tetley’s Challenge Cup last Sunday and they will now aim to get their Championship campaign back on track.

Bobbie Goulding and Jonathan Schofield were used as a new half-back pairing and both impressed Morrison.

He added: “You looked at the team sheet and there were a couple of formidable names from 20 years ago.

“Bobbie was outstanding, he scored a try and set up several others and had a good kicking game.

“Schoey also scored and neither have done themselves any harm of having other chances.

“(Wakefield) want Bobbie playing footy and is he isn’t in their 18 there is nowhere for him to go.”

Hooker Ryan Wright is Dewsbury’s only injury worry and he is likely to miss the next few weeks with an ankle injury.
