Morrison pulls no punches in wake of Hunslet defeat

The Rams slipped to an 18-6 defeat at South Leeds Stadium as Hunslet bounced back from two defeats to gain a first win since earning promotion last season.

Morrison had called for his side to maintain their momentum after the previous week’s game against Workington was postponed but the Australian pulled no punches in the wake of defeat.

Morrison said: “There are no positives to take from the game.

“That’s the worst performance I’ve seen since I’ve been here. We didn’t deserve to win.

“We were against the wind in the first half and had an 8-2 penalty count against us but we were deservedly 12 points down at half-time.

“We knew it was going to be a tough one. They’ve got a lot of dual reg players in their side and having the week off in the last round wasn’t the best, but we just didn’t show up to play.

“There’s no excuse for putting in a performance like that.

Morrison has indicated there could be changes for this Sunday’s game against Whitehaven and was planning on paying close interest to last night’s Reserve team friendly against York City Knights, with a view to switching things around.

Morrison added: “Even though we’ve got a lot of players who haven’t had a run out this season, we stuck with the team which played against Sheffield but some of them didn’t deserve to wear the shirt and I expect to be making some changes (this)week.

“We’ve definitely lost some of the momentum we had after the first round, but it’s important to get back on track as soon as we can.

“We know we can play a lot better, we need to fix a few things up and we have to step up.

“Even though we are at home we can’t afford to be complacent. We can’t take any game lightly. We have to put in a better performance this Sunday.”
