Moorlands book place in Heavy Woollen semi

Moorlands reached the Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup semi-finals for the first time in their history with victory over Treeton last Sunday.

The Mirfield side are one of three Huddersfield League clubs through to the last four after they overcame the South Yorkshire League Premier Division side by 112 runs.

Naveed Zamurad led the way with a fine 126 while Jared Maxwell made 53 as Moorlands posted 276-5.

Treeton were dismissed for 164 in reply with Jake Dubbeldan taking 3-26.

New Farnley are the only Bradford League side through, following a 124-run victory over Morley.

Lee Goddard (97) and Simon Lambert (77) led the New Farnley innings, while their score of 287-7 was boosted by 25 penalty runs awarded against Morley for a slow over rate.

Morley suffered an early batting collapse and only an unbeaten 79 from James McNichol took them to 163-7 in reply.

Last season’s beaten finalists Hoylandswaine and Scholes make up the semi-finalists

Hoylandswaine racked up 338 as they beat five-times winners Wrenthorpe in a match which produced 614 runs, while Scholes won a thrilling game against Townville by four wickets.

East Bierley, Hanging Heaton, Ossett and New Farnley make up the Crowther Cup semi-finalists.

East Bierley overcame 2014 winners Morley by 87 runs.

Liam Walsh made a sparking 112 , while Robert Barker (40) and Dan Abbott (34) supported as East Bierley reached 274-8.

Michael Darby (55) and Ryan Dowse (50) made half-centuries in reply but Morley were dismissed for 197 as Matt Anderson picked up 4-39.

Hanging Heaton were involved in a nerve-jangling finish against Yeadon where they edged home by one-wicket for the second successive day.

Oliver Newton produced a superb spell of bowling, claiming 7-19 as Yeadon were dismissed for 152, with Andrew Pickering (42) and Ryan Heptinstall (35) their top scorers.

James Byrne led the reply with 53 but Yeadon fought back through Joel Ainsley (4-27) and it took a boundary from veteran John Carruthers, batting at number 11, to see his side over the line.

Bradford League side Scholes slipped to a 115-run defeat against Ossett.

Chris Smith (51) top scored as Ossett reached 194, with Stephen West taking 5-52.

Dale Winterbotom picked up 4-12 in reply as Scholes were bowled out for 79.

New Farnley overcame Huddersfield League side Scholes by seven wickets to reach the last four.

Scholes were dismissed for 106 before Craig Russell made 38 to steer his side to a comfortable win.
