Fellows stars before rain ends Hanging Heaton hopes

The teams waited until the 4.25pm cut off point and groundsman Roy Holdsworth did a terrific mopping up job to ensure a 20-over-a-side game could take place.

Cleckheaton captain John Wood asked Hanging Heaton to bat first and as news spread of some cricket taking place, a decent crowd gathered.

Gary Fellows produced a superb knock, hitting nine fours and four sixes on his way to 85 from just 56 balls.

Nick Connolly supported with an aggressive 42, while Joe Fraser chipped in with 25 not out as Heaton posted 183-3.

David Stiff claimed the wicket of John Wood and Cleckheaton were 15-1 off 2.1 overs when lightning forced the players from the field before heavy rain finally saw the match abandoned.

Cleckheaton gained a point on title rivals Woodlands and Pudsey St Lawrence by virtue of their bowling bonus point, while Heaton moved into fifth place.

The only other top flight game to start saw Yeadon restrict Lightcliffe 114-9 and then reach 30-2 off six overs when rain halted proceedings.

The East Bierley v Farsley fixture was an early victim to the rain followed by the matches at New Farnley v Pudsey Congs, Pudsey St Lawrence v Bradford & Bingley and Woodlands v Morley.

Woodlands host Hanging Heaton in the semi-finals of the Dyson Energy Services Twenty20 Cup next Tuesday (July 29).

Woodlands overcame Lightcliffe by 62 runs in their quarter-final last week when Duncan Snell smashed 94.

The Twenty20 final will take place under floodlights at Bradford & Bingley on Thursday August 14
