Thornhill Community Academy joins Wear it Yellow appeal

Pupils and staff at Thornhill Community Academy will wear yellow on Thursday July 3 and donate £1 to help the charity.

To raise even more funds staff and pupils are taking on a gruelling biking challenge of their own and are pledging to keep two bicycles moving throughout the whole of the school day.

Headteacher Jonny Mitchell said: “We of course wanted to support Yorkshire and the Air Ambulance, one of our local charities, and intend painting the county yellow for a day in order to celebrate the start of the Tour de France.”

The school canteen will also be offering a yellow foods for lunches – pineapple and lemon sponge and custard will be top of the menu.

Residents and businesses across Yorkshire will take part in Wear it Yellow Day next month by wearing something yellow and organising a range of charity events. The initiative was conceived by The Yorkshire Post.

Westborough High School, in Dewsbury, has already signed up to the campaign and will host events on July 3. Ex-mayor and cyclist enthusiast Martyn Bolt has also pledged his support for the day.

The funds will help keep the charity’s helicopter in the air, which currently costs £9,900 a day to run.
