Along with the annual garden trail, the calendar is one of the main sources of income for the team, which this year retained its Yorkshire In Bloom Gold award and also won the Best in Category honour.

The photo competition has ran for six years and this year attracted 171 entries, all of views and plants around the village.

Team member Tricia Bland said: “The judging of the entries was unanimous, the standard was very high. A lot of the pictures were of people’s own gardens or around the village of the work that we have done. There are some stunning photographs, and a particular highlight are the poppies which represent November. It was only after it was picked as a winner that a member realised how perfect in would be to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War 1 next November.”

The calendar is now on sale from team members and various outlets in Hopton and Mirfield, including: Hill Top Farm Shop, Upper Hopton Club, The Travellers Rest, Lower Hopton News, Londis, The Beauty Works, ShoelyScrumptious, Beadelicious, Aveyard Opticians, Mick’s Greengrocer, Brooke’s Delicatessen and hthe Melting House. It costs £5.

The Hopton in Bloom team will host a ‘Meet the Team’ event tonight at Upper Hopton Club. The calendar will be on sale there and at a coffee morning on November 16 at Croft House, 10am.
