Spen Valley High School's Mrs McConnell retires after 30 years


Deputy headteacher Diane McConnell will work her last day at the Roberttown Lane school on March 24.
Spen Valley High’s headteacher Ian Ellan said paid tribute to the highly-valued member of staff.

Hide Ad“Di’s work has touched thousands of families in the Spen Valley community and she will retire as a hugely respected figure within it,” he said.
Mrs McConnell’s career at the high started when she was employed as a maths teacher in 1985 at what was then Liversedge Secondary Modern School. In 1989 she was promoted to head of the mathematics department and later joined the school’s senior leadership team.
“In recent years, Di has been an instrumental figure in establishing and driving forward the work of seven schools in the Spenborough Cooperative Trust,” said Mr Ellan.
Mrs McConnell, a former Heckmondwike Grammar School pupil, will receive a special assembly on her final day. Former and current members of staff will also celebrate her retirement at a leaving bash on March 18. Following her departure, Mrs McConnell will spend a brief period in Greece with family.
