Popular Whiteley’s parrot Mr Bird reunited with owner

A POPULAR parrot has been returned home after he flew the nest and escaped.

Mr Bird, the resident dwarf macaw at Whiteley’s Garden Centre, Mirfield, got in a flap when he was being shown to a school group last Wednesday and flew away.

His owners thought he was lost for good, but two days later he turned up in Sarah Preston’s garden in Colne Bridge.

Ms Preston spotted Mr Bird after she heard squawking in her garden. She called her neighbour, Vicky Smith, and the pair managed to get tempt Mr Bird into a cage with food.

They called Calder Vets in Brighouse, who confirmed the bird was the one that had gone missing from the garden centre in Far Common Road.

Mr Bird was then safely returned to Whiteley’s, to the delight of his owner and pet shop manager, James Tolson.

“I’ve had him for a long time, so I was pretty gutted when he flew off,” he said.
