Man admits killing

A MAN has admitted killing someone in a street attack.

Mohammed Nazakat Alam, 24, pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter at Leeds Crown Court this morning.

His co-accused Nisar Shah, 40, denied manslaughter but admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm for his part in attack.

Jack Carter, 39, of Bretton Street, Savile Town, was attacked in Victoria Road, Thornhill Lees, on August 28, 2011 and died three days later.

Alam, of Beckett Lane, Dewsbury Moor, was remanded in custody and told he would be given a prison sentence.

Shah, formerly of Victoria Road, was given bail but told by the Recorder of Leeds, Peter Collier QC, that he could also be jailed.

The pair will be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on January 5.
