Going for the chop for a poorly friend
Led by manager Mandy Spencer, Ward 19 leapt into action when they heard about a friend’s breast cancer diagnosis by raising cash for charity in her honour.

Hide AdBut Mandy, who has been at the hospital for 37 years, went a step further and had inches of her long locks chopped off, not only to raise money through sponsorship, but to donate the hair to the Princess Trust.
Friend and colleague Janet Dransfield said: “When we heard about our friend being diagnosed with breast cancer, the whole team rallied round.
“We raised £170 for Breast Cancer Research by taking part in the Walk for Life and collected goodies to take to her at home.

Hide Ad“We’re always fundraising for charities, but Mandy said she wanted to do something more this time as it really hit home with us all because it’s someone so close to us.
“We’re like a family. “
Mandy had her hair cut on the ward, watched by friends and colleagues.
The hair has now been sent to Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness.
