Councillors form litter pick group as Gomersal ‘dumping’ ground gets tidied

Two local councillors have helped to form a litter picking group to tackle an unsightly “dumping” ground in Gomersal.

Coun Caroline Holt, who represents Liversedge and Gomersal, along with Coun David Hall of the same ward, a warden from St Mary’s Church, and two residents gathered at Butts Hill on Saturday (January 31) morning as part of Keep Gomersal Tidy to clean up the area which has been a notorious spot for dropped litter.

Coun Holt said: “We did it in response to local people complaining about the state of Butts Hill. My answer was to get together to form a Keep Gomersal Tidy group, with support from my other ward councillors, and to start a regular litter pick in this area.

“If we can encourage local residents to take back the pride in their local open spaces then we can make it better for everyone to enjoy.

“I know we have reduced resources in the Council budget so, as residents, of which I am one, we need to start to encourage people to stop making areas like this a dump and to make it into spaces everyone can enjoy.”

As you can see from the before and after photos, the group has done a great job in keeping Gomersal tidy.

Keep Gomersal Tidy will be arranging another clean-up operation event soon.
