Appeal after Heckmondwike taxi driver beaten up for his car in Birstall

POLICE APPEAL Police would like to speak to this man in connection with a robbery in Heckmondwike.

Another man, Matthew Wood, was jailed for five years, at Leeds Crown Court, for his role in the robbery and one count of theft from earlier that day.

The driver was told to go to the junction of King’s Hall and Bronte Road, in Birstall, where he was punched repeatedly in the head and pulled out of the car.

But police are still looking for the second man, who was picked up at a car park in High Street, Heckmondwike, after the taxi drove away from Pennine Cars in Regent Street.

Detective Inspector Ian Thornes of Kirklees CID, said: “With his actions Wood showed he had no regard for who he stole from or for the law but he has now been brought to justice and I am pleased that the court recognised the seriousness of his actions by giving him the sentence he got.

“He now has time inside to consider the consequences of his actions.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal for anyone who knows the person pictured in the CCTV still to get in contact. We want to speak to them in connection with the robbery of the taxi driver.”
