Artist members share a diverse range of work in annual showcase

Skilful embroidery, botanical studies and highly individual pieces by Vivienne A Brown will be the centrepiece of an exhibition opening at Dewsbury Town Hall this weekend.

A special display of her work will be featured in Dewsbury Arts Group’s Annual Exhibition 2013 alongside almost 200 pieces by 31 artists.

Work in more conventional oil and acrylic techniques includes bold landscapes by Henry Thornton, impasto flower paintings by Josie Barraclough, and a whole range of landscape work by Malcolm Jones, Ken Beaumont, Bruce Mulcahy and David Wood.

Sue Atkinson, whose work is regularly seen in London, will also shows busy figurative paintings and some very atmospheric landscapes.

Printmaking can be seen at its best in the linocuts of Mike Smith, while Julia Keates will exhibit a large textural canvas.

Elsewhere, David Martin’s still-life groups and outstanding painting of Dewsbury’s architecture will show the town from a different viewpoint and Beryl Conway shows delicate watercolour work.

Drawing will be a strong point throughout the exhibition, which includes some portrait and figure studies.

The free exhibition, supported by UK Greetings and George Brooke Limited, will be held at Dewsbury Town Hall despite renovation work.

It is open daily from Saturday July 13 until Saturday July 20, except Sunday July 14, 11am-4pm.
