We may never know who these children were or where the photograph was taken, but it is a picture which was found in an old filing cabinet at Staincliffe Hospital, once part of the old Workhouse, which leaves one feeling that perhaps the children had once lived there.

Many children, like these pictured here in Albion Road, Thornhill Edge, may well have attended the Thornhill Walker Welfare Charity school which for many years was the only school in Thornhill to provide free education, thanks to Richard Walker.
