Pair plan to visit every RNLI station during charity trip

AN arson officer is setting off on an epic journey to raise money for charity.

David Tattersfield from Kirklees Arson Task Force is visiting every Royal National Lifeboat Institute station in the country with his friend Thomas Marsland.

Mr Tattersfield, who is based at Dewsbury Fire Station, is setting off on Wednesday to raise cash for the RNLI and the Firefighters’ Charity.

He said: “They are both very emotive charities because they save lives.”

The duo’s journey will start at Tobermory Lifeboat Station on the Isle of Mull where Mr Marsland is an RNLI volunteer.

They will visit more than 300 lifeboat and fire stations, covering 5,000 miles, over 25 days.

They have set an ambitious fundraising target of £50,000, but would be happy with any final donation they can make to their chosen charities.

Both will be taking time off work without pay to do the challenge, which they plan to complete in Mr Marsland’s plumber’s van.

There will be a charity car wash to raise extra funds for the trip at Dewsbury Fire Station in Huddersfield Road tomorrow, 10am to 2pm.
