Man wandered from hospital

A PENSIONER who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease walked home from hospital in his dressing gown without being stopped by staff.

James Vickers, 70, was in Dewsbury and District Hospital after he collapsed on Friday November 18th. When his daughter, Amanda, called his ward on Monday she was told he was almost ready to go home.

But 15 minutes later he turned up at his house in Rutland Walk, Westtown.

Miss Vickers said: “He walked past the nurses with his case in his hand, and they knew he kept packing his bags and saying he was going home.”

Tracey McErlain-Burns, from Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust said staff began looking for Mr Vickers as soon as they saw he was gone and that the matter would be investigated.
