Festival spirit for Ravensthorpe

The Dewsbury West Community Festival will host a variety of events at Holdroyd Park on Sunday August 24, 11am-4pm.
Coun Darren O’Donovan (Lab, Dewsbury West), who helped to organise the event, said: “It’s an event where families from across Dewsbury West can come together at the end of a long summer for the one last activity before the kids go back to school.
He said the festival would be great for community spirit in the district.
He said: “As a councillor I feel it is important that the communities and groups had an opportunity to come together for a fun day that leads to better understanding and improved cohesion.”
And he said that organisers were hoping for a decent turnout to the first installment of the festival.
“We’re expecting around 400-500 people, maybe more if the weather’s nice, maybe less if not.”
The day will include a representation from West Yorkshire Police, who will present an interactive actiivity, as well as an an art and drama show from the Lawrence Batley Theatre.
There will a variety of stalls and a group of Irish dancers will be performing.
The festival was organised by Dewsbury West’s Community First panel with money allocated from the Community Development Foundation.
Entrance to the festival is free but some stalls and activities will charge.
There is another Dewsbury West Community Festival in the pipeline for next August with the funds allocated.
